On 8/7/19 at approximately 7:40 PM, two vehicles were traveling eastbound (one behind the other) on Cochran St. approaching a red signal at Tapo Canyon Rd. in the City of Simi Valley. As the lead vehicle (V-2) slowed down for the red signal, the trailing vehicle (V-1) did not, causing V-1 to collide with V-2. V-2 was pushed into a power pole, causing the vehicle to catch fire. Neither driver was injured, but a passenger in V-2 sustained moderate injuries. The investigation revealed the driver of V-1 was DUI (alcohol/drugs). He was identified as James Francis Akrey (1/18/86) of Simi Valley. Akrey was placed under arrest for 23153 (g) VC, DUI Alcohol/Drugs with injury, a felony. He was booked at the Ventura County Jail.
