Sunday, July 28, 2019
Petty Theft Location: 2000 Block of El Camino Real
A Loss Prevention Specialist observed a male subject pay for one item in self check out and exit the store with multiple unpaid items valued at $844.35. The Loss Prevention Specialist detained the subject outside of the store on the 2000 block of El Camino Real and contacted Public Safety Dispatchers. The responding officer arrested the subject.

Monday, July 29, 2019
Commercial Burglary Location: 200 Block of N. Winchester Boulevard
The alarm company for a business on the 200 block of N. Winchester Boulevard contacted Public Safety Dispatchers regarding a crime in progress.

Upon arrival, officers immediately noticed the front doors missing to the business. Through investigation, officers learned the suspect(s) used a vehicle to crash into the glass doors of the store, stole cigarettes and an Automated Teller Machine. The suspect(s) fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Tuesday, July 30, 2019
Hit and Run Location: 2900 Block of Monroe Street
A male suspect hit an unoccupied parked vehicle on the 2900 block of Monroe Street. The suspect fled the scene and a witness followed the heavily damaged suspect vehicle.

Officers located the vehicle abandoned in near San Tomas Expressway and Pruneridge Avenue. Officers observed a can of white paint had exploded in the cab of the vehicle.

An area check resulted in locating a male subject walking covered in white paint. Upon contact, officers observed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, including a Preliminary Blood Alcohol Screening. The results of the test were 0.172% and 0.170% blood alcohol content. The subject was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Wednesday, July 31, 2019
Prowler Location: 2500 Block of Benton Street
Officers responded to the 2500 block of Benton Street on the report of a prowler.

A resident woke to noises in the yard. An unknown male subject could be seen. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival and was not located. No attempts were made to gain access to the residence nor was any property taken.

Thursday, August 1, 2019
Attempted Robbery Location: El Camino Real and Halford Avenue
Officers were dispatched to the area of El Camino Real and Halford Avenue regarding a physical fight occurring in the roadway.

Upon arrival, the suspect had fled the scene. Through investigation, officers learned the suspect attempted to steal a victim's cell phone out of their hand and a fight ensued. The suspect also verbally threatened to harm the victim. The suspect is known and remains at large.

Foot Pursuit Location: El Camino Real and Flora Vista Avenue
An officer observed a male pedestrian conduct a crosswalk violation on El Camino Real near Flora Vista Avenue. The officer contacted the pedestrian.

The subject initially provided a false name. Then, the subject disobeyed commands and fled the scene on foot to escape arrest. Responding officers quickly established a perimeter. Officers located the subject hiding in a dumpster.

A Records check revealed the subject had a warrant issued for his arrest. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Throughout the state, law enforcement agencies are battling high occurrences of thefts from vehicles. Santa Clara is no different!

SCPD has taken proactive steps to address preventing thefts from vehicles among residents, business / property owners and visitors, including:

* Educational messages on the City / SCPD website and social media
* Community meetings
* Flyer distribution in targeted areas encouraging drivers not to leave valuables in their vehicle
* Meetings with hotel management, car rental companies and shopping center property managers to encourage ample lighting, security personnel, signage, video surveillance and maintain an open line of communication
* High visibility patrols in areas where break-ins have occurred
* Undercover operations to locate in-progress thefts and apprehend suspects

Despite these on-going efforts suppression efforts, eleven (11) thefts from vehicles were reported throughout the City between 8/1/19 - 8/4/19 at the following locations:

- 100 block of N Winchester Boulevard
- 2700 block of Augustine Drive
- 3000 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard
- 3100 block of Homestead Road
- 3100 block of Mission College Boulevard (2)
- 3500 block of El Camino Real
- 3600 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard
- 4200 block of Great America Parkway (2)
- 5000 block of Lick Mill Boulevard

Residents are reminded to:
* Park in well-lit areas
* Always lock your vehicle
* Do not leave ANY valuables (e.g. loose change, GPS, gym bag, purse/wallet, charging cords, garage remote, or sunglasses) in your vehicle or in your trunk.
* Suspects have been known to break windows, fold the back seat, and access trunks
* Do not leave cell phones, iPads or laptops in your vehicle. Thieves have been known to locate signals from these devices even when they are in "sleep mode"
* Criminals often target rental cars, so do not leave any valuables in your rental car while it is parked
* Report suspicious activity by calling 408-615-5580. In-progress incidents should be reported by calling 9-1-1. Do NOT confront suspects. Instead, be a good witness
