MEDIA ADVISORY - Assemblymember Kansen Chu Delivers Funding to Combat Car Break-ins
Assemblymember Kansen Chu (D-San Jose) will be presenting a total of $3.75 million of newly-secured State funding to local police departments within the 25th Assembly District. This money will be used to address drastic increases in the rate of smash and grab theft from parked vehicles. Each local police department, Milpitas, Fremont, Newark, Santa Clara, and San Jose, will receive $750,000 to address issues within their jurisdiction and coordinate regionally. It will be used to replicate successful public awareness campaigns done in other cities, to conduct outreach with businesses in high-traffic areas where these crimes are common, to fund overtime for police officers to investigate these cases and rapidly share information with neighboring jurisdictions, and to pay for signs and equipment that would prevent car breakins.
