...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WITH INTENSE LIGHTNING WILL IMPACT
SOUTHWESTERN MCDOWELL...NORTHWESTERN RUTHERFORD...NORTHEASTERN
HENDERSON AND SOUTHEASTERN BUNCOMBE COUNTIES UNTIL 230 PM EDT...
At 142 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm with
intense lightning 12 miles east of Downtown Asheville, or over Black
Mountain. This storm was nearly stationary.
Locations to be impacted include...
Black Mountain, Swannanoa, Old Fort, Chimney Rock Village, Chimney
Rock State Park, Bat Cave, Lake Lure, Fairview In Buncombe County,
Montreat and Sugar Hill.
In addition to intense lightning, wind gusts up to 45 mph, pea size
hail and very heavy rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour will be
possible in these areas.
