DUI Driver Arrested after Collision with Serious Injuries
On 08/02/2019, at around 6:18pm, Rohnert Park Public Safety began receiving calls regarding a traffic collision in the 600 block of Rohnert Park Expressway in which a car had collided into a tree in the center divide and the driver was unconscious. It was also reported an involved woman was attempting to flee the scene. As Rohnert Park Police and Fire personnel arrived, they found a Honda Civic in the westbound lanes with major damage to the passenger side of the vehicle and the driver was unconscious (see attached photo). The 22 year old driver was removed from the vehicle and rushed to the hospital where he is in stable condition with serious injuries.
As personnel were tending to the driver of the Honda, other officers located the woman who had reportedly left the scene of the accident in the parking lot of the Food Maxx shopping center near where the Honda was found. The woman was identified as 26 year old Casandra Harden of Rohnert Park, and she had been driving another vehicle that was involved in the collision. A witness to the collision followed Harden and was waiting with her to ensure she did not continue to leave the area before officers arrived. Harden showed signs of severe alcohol intoxication, so officers began a DUI investigation and she was found to have a preliminary blood alcohol content of .23%.
Based on the initial investigation into the collision, it appears the Honda was traveling eastbound on Rohnert Park Expressway passing the entrance to the Food Maxx parking lot when Harden made a left turn from westbound Rohnert Park Expressway to turn into the Food Maxx parking lot. Harden’s vehicle collided into the driver’s side of the Honda causing it to spin and collide into a tree in the center divide, and then spun into the westbound lanes. Harden drove into the parking lot after the collision and continued on further into the lot before parking her vehicle. Both the east and westbound lanes of Rohnert Park Expressway were shut down while the collision was investigated. Harden was arrested for felony Driving Under the Influence Causing Serious Bodily Injury as well as felony Hit and Run Causing Serious Bodily Injury, and she was booked into the Sonoma County Jail where she is being held on $100,000.00 bail.
