Coastal Flood Watch until 01:00AM Saturday

...MODERATE TO POSSIBLY MAJOR COASTAL FLOODING WILL IMPACT PORTIONS OF SOUTH COASTAL SOUTH CAROLINA THIS EVENING... .Elevated tides will continue to impact the South Carolina and Georgia coasts into tonight. Tide levels are expected to reach moderate to possibly major flooding thresholds with this evening's high tide. Significant coastal flooding is possible, especially along the South Carolina coast, and a Coastal Flood Watch has been issued. The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Coastal Flood Watch, which is in effect from this evening through late tonight.

* LOCATIONS...Beaufort, Coastal Colleton and Charleston.

* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...One to two feet of saltwater inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways (7.8 to 8.0 feet Mean Lower Low Water). Significant saltwater inundation will render some roads impassable resulting in closures, especially in Downtown Charleston. Properties may also flood.

* TIMING...High tide will occur around 1003 PM in the Charleston Harbor and around 1110 PM in the Beaufort River at Beaufort. Saltwater inundation will be possible 2 to 3 hours before and after high tide.

* AFFECTED AREAS: BEAUFORT ... CHARLESTON ... COASTAL COLLETON

Instructions:

Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property before flooding develops. If travel will be required, prepare for closed roads.
