INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Recruiting Unit will host the next Women Behind the Badge workshop this Saturday. These free workshops are aimed at supporting women interested in becoming some of IMPD’s newest police officers as the department continues the work of building a police force that reflects the community it serves. Over the course of the day, participants will learn how to be a successful candidate in the competitive IMPD hiring process and interact with female officers from all levels of the department, gaining an understanding of the career opportunities available through IMPD and what it means to serve the people of Indianapolis.
The free workshop includes:
• Application and hiring process information
• Discussion on the benefits and challenges of the career
• Physical fitness course skills testing
In January, IMPD announced a series of innovative changes aimed at recruiting and retaining more qualified applicants to join the police force. The changes include a significant pay increase for new recruits that raised first-year salaries from $39,446 to $51,000, with second-year salaries increasing from $47,650 to $59,500. Lateral recruits and third-year officer salaries remain at the contractual salary rate of $70,139.
