New Lightning Detection System is Live!

A message from Mayor Dillon Regarding Ramsey’sn ew lightning detection system.

I hope you are having a wonderful summer. I would like to take a moment to inform you of the borough’s new lightning detection system that has been installed at our recreational parks, the Farmers’ Market, Board of Education fields, and Don BoscoHigh School. The system consists of horns and strobe lights that will notify players, coaches, and residents who may be utilizing these facilities that there is lightning in the area and shelter should be taken immediately. This partnership was created to enhance the borough's commitment to public safety throughout town. It is important to know that these sirens and strobe lights will only be active during daytime hours and will not go off after hours when the fields are not being utilized.

Over the next few weeks all of Ramsey’s coaches andrecreational staff will be trained on how to respond and evacuate fields if the system detects lightning and is activated. In addition all residents should know that if you hear thunder there is lightning, and if our lightning detection system goes off while you are using one of these fields equipped with the detection system you should seek shelter in your vehicle or in a sturdy building immediately. Signs will be placed throughout town at these warning stations.

If you have any questions about the system please do not hesitate to call Ramsey Office of Emergency Management at 201-825-3400.

Thank you and have a safe summer.
