Death Investigation Involving Newborn

This afternoon at about 4:11PM, Officers with the Fairfield Police Department were dispatched to a call regarding a women behind a business in the 300 block of Pittman Road. The local business employee who called additionally told dispatchers two infants were with her and appeared to have been recently birthed on the sidewalk behind the businesses. Arriving officers searched the area and located the two newborns, but no mother. 

The first officer who arrived immediately started life saving efforts on one of the newborns and turned care over to fire department personnel. This infant was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition at this time. Unfortunately the other newborn was determined to have died prior to the officer’s arrival. 

While this was occurring officers received information about a female possibly associated still in the area. Officers searched the surrounding area and found a female nearby on Central Place. Based on the officers observations, it appears the female had recently given birth. The mother has been detained and taken to a local hospital for treatment. 

Our Investigations Bureau has responded to the scene and is taking over the investigation. Based on how new this incident is we do not have any further information to release at this time.
