...HEAVY RAINFALL MAY CAUSE FLASH FLOODING ACROSS PARTS OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING... .An approaching cold front and upper level disturbance will generate numerous heavy rain producing showers and thunderstorms across western North Carolina tonight through Tuesday morning. The approaching front will contain very moist air and the resulting heavy rain showers will fall on soil already saturated by recent heavy rainfall. Flash flooding could quickly develop under these conditions. The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has expanded the
* Flash Flood Watch to include portions of piedmont North Carolina and western North Carolina, including the following areas, in piedmont North Carolina, Alexander, Catawba, Davie, and Iredell Counties. In western North Carolina, all of Burke, Caldwell, and McDowell Counties.
* through Tuesday morning
* Expanding coverage of showers and thunderstorms will result in areas of heavy rainfall impacting the region tonight through Tuesday morning. Soils are nearly saturated across much of the region, and the additional heavy rainfall may cause flash flooding to develop very quickly.
* Residents in low-lying and flood prone areas will want to monitor nearby water levels very closely. Campers, hikers, and others involved in outdoor recreation activities will also want to keep a close eye on nearby stream levels and be prepared to seek higher ground if flooding develops.
