EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING FOR OUR AREA, COOLING CENTERS DESIGNATED FOR VERY HIGH TEMPERATURES

Excessive heat conditions will impact our area over the next 3 days.

Extreme heat is forecast through the weekend. An Excessive Heat Warning is posted today through 10 PM Sunday for all New Jersey counties. High temperatures and humidity will result in heat index temperatures that range from 98˚ to 110˚ on Friday, and 105˚ to 115˚ on Saturday and Sunday.

These predicted temperatures we have not seen in our area in nearly a decade.

We will keep you informed as the situation develops.

See below for some related tips for dealing with the heat.

Some reminders during high temperature conditions.

High heat index temperatures increase the risk of life-threatening heat-related illnesses. Vulnerable populations include the elderly, very young, people with chronic health issues, those with heart and lung conditions, people without air conditioning, pets, and people working outside. Avoid strenuous activity outside during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, and never leave children and pets in cars. Heat stroke can be deadly.

Due to increased demand on the system power outages may occure. If this happens you are urged to contact PSE&G at 1-800-880-7734 to report the outage to ensure that your outage is entered into their system so they can address the problem. Do not assume others have called they need an accurate count of affected residents to propery address the situation.

If anyone sees or knows a person who needs help, they are urged to call the Perth Amboy Police Department at 732-442-4400. If needed, transportation will be provided by local emergency responders.
