Maria Martinez is arrested for being in possession of a breathing machine belonging to a 14yo Apple Valley girl

***UPDATE JULY 18, 2019***

On Thursday, July 18, 2019, Detectives from the Apple Valley Police Department identified Maria Martinez, a 38-year-old Victorville resident as a suspect in this case. Upon further investigation it was determined, Martinez was in possession of the breathing machine and coordinated the property to be dropped off in the 16000 block of Forrest Avenue. Martinez was arrested and booked into High Desert Detention Center for violation of Penal Code 496, possession of stolen property.

INCIDENT: Found Property

LOCATION: 16700 block of Forrest Avenue, Victorville

SUMMARY: On July 15, 2019, Deputy J. Carroll and Deputy M. Lee, from the Victorville Police Department responded to a call in the 16700 block of Forrest Avenue regarding possible stolen property.

The caller told Sheriff’s Dispatch there were two small suitcases thrown out of a vehicle. Information written on the cases lead the caller to believe they may contain the breathing machine belonging to a 14-year old Apple Valley girl, which had been stolen during a residential burglary on July 12, 2019.

Upon arrival, deputies confirmed the cases contained the breathing machine. The family has been contacted and the machine will be returned to the victim today. Deputies will continue to investigate all information and leads received on the case to locate and charge the suspect(s) responsible for the theft.
