The safety and well-being of Rahway’s residents is the paramount concern of City government. With the extreme temperatures expected over the next few days, Mayor Raymond Giacobbe and the City Council want to make residents aware of air-conditioned facilities that will be open to the public:

  • Rahway Public Library (2 City Hall Plaza) will be open extended hours from 9:00am to 8:00pm on Friday and Saturday. All Library resources will be available. In addition, the Library’s programming will include Junior Bingo at 11:00am Friday, a Kids Movie at 2:00pm Friday, and Cat Lovers Storytime at 11:00am Saturday.
  • Union County Performing Arts Center’s Main Stage (1601 Irving Street) will be open to the public from 11:00am to 8:00pm on Sunday, with entertainment provided throughout the day.
Drinking water will be available to residents at no charge at each location.
All residents should stay alert to signs of heat-related illnesses. Please see the image below for what to look for and what to do. In addition to yourself, please check in on family members and neighbors, particularly the elderly.
