Heat Advisory until 08:00PM Thursday

...Dangerously Hot and Humid Conditions will continue into Thursday across the Mid-South... The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a Heat Advisory, which is in effect from 11 AM to 8 PM CDT Thursday.

* HEAT INDEX READINGS...110 degrees or greater through early this evening. 105 to 109 degrees on Thursday.

* TIMING...This afternoon into early evening and again on Thursday.

* IMPACTS...The heat and humidity will result in an increased risk for heat-related illnesses. The very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and those participating in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible. Also, car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Remember to check the backseat!

* AFFECTED AREAS: GREENE ... CRAIGHEAD ... CLAY ... PEMISCOT ... MISSISSIPPI ... CROSS ... PHILLIPS ... LEE ... ST. FRANCIS ... SHELBY ... CRITTENDEN ... POINSETT ... DUNKLIN

Instructions:

An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a DANGEROUS SITUATION in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
