Advisory

Wilmington Police arrest man for falsely reporting shots fired incident:

Wilmington Police have arrested a man who falsely reported a shots fired incident.

On July 8 at approximately 1:49 p.m., units responded to the 300 block of South Jackson Street in reference to a shots fired complaint. Police were advised by 33-year-old Andre Rivera that a man had threatened him with a firearm and then fired one gunshot at his vehicle.

Responding officers located the suspect vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop. The driver of the vehicle was cooperative, and officers were unable to locate a firearm or any other evidence in the vehicle.

In the course of further investigation, Rivera denied his initial statements to police regarding the incident. Officers followed up with the WPD 9-1-1 Communications Division and confirmed the initial call placed by Rivera, in which he clearly stated that the other individual possessed and fired a gun at the scene.

Rivera has been charged with falsely reporting an incident, and was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas. He was released on his own recognizance pending further proceedings.
