McDowell County sheriff’s deputies have charged John Arthur West, 47, address listed as Bakersville, with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
                Shortly before noon on Friday, July 12, West and the victim, 42-year-old Michael Blake Thorne, address listed as Jenny Lind Drive, got into a dispute at Thorne’s residence, at which time West brandished a pointed-tip tool and stabbed Thorne once in the torso.
                The argument between the two reportedly started earlier at a construction site at McDowell Square Shopping Center, on U.S. 70 West, where both were working, then continued to Thorne’s property on Jenny Lind Drive.
                Alcohol played a role in the altercation.
                Thorne was taken to Mission Hospital in Asheville for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
