Union City, CA – On July 10, 2019 approximately 5:13 pm, Union City Police Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a shooting that occurred in a residence in the area of Palmetto Drive and Butternut Court.
Upon arrival, officers located a 16 year old male victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to his chest. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment where he was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive. Since the victim is a juvenile, his name will not be released.
There were three other subjects at the residence and through their investigation, Union City Police Detectives were able to identify one, a 16 year old male, as a suspect.
Ultimately the 16 year old male was placed under arrest for the shooting. The juvenile male is being charged with:
· 1 count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Felony)
· 1 count of Negligent Discharge of a Firearm (Felony)
The juvenile’s name is not being released due to his age. Detectives were able to locate the firearm used in the crime on-scene.
During the course of the investigation, Detectives learned the juveniles were playing a modified game of “Russian Roulette”, where the juveniles pointed the firearm at each other instead of at themselves. This action resulted in the shooting.
This incident was isolated to the residence and all parties were contacted there. There are no outstanding suspects and no public safety concerns.
