Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that the Cass County Sheriff's Office investigated a personal injury crash at 0248 hours near the intersection of Decatur Rd and Kelsey Lake, Penn TWP, County of Cass, State of Michigan. 23 year old South Bend resident, Rachel Ann Weamer, was traveling southbound on Decatur when she had a head on collision with a tree that had fallen and was blocking the roadway. Weamer had minor injuries due to the crash. 24 year old South Bend resident Jordan Jessica VanGoey was in the backseat of the vehicle and sustained minor injuries. VanGoey was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Also in the vehicle was Rebecca Lee Brewer, 19 year old South Bend resident who was in the front passenger seat and sustained minor injuries. Brewer and VanGoey were both transported to South Bend Memorial by LifeCare ambulance for treatment. VanGoey was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be a factor.
Cass County Sheriff's Department was assisted by Penn Township Fire Department and LifeCare EMS
