Utility companies, government agencies, and other service providers do not demand payment via Bitcoin, GooglePlay cards, etc.

The Voorhees Police Department, along with numerous law enforcement agencies around the area, have seen an increase in reports for victims of frauds.  When receiving phone calls, letters, emails, etc. from individuals who claim to be representatives of utility providers or government agencies, request their organization name and indicate you will call them back on their official phone number.  Utilize your most recent bill, 411, or an internet search to locate the official website and locate the official phone number on the official website.  Phone numbers provided by scammers are not legitimate numbers.  In addition, utility providers and government agencies will not request payment via forms such as Bitcoin, crypto-currency, Google Play cards, VISA pre-paid cards, and other such means.  Additionally, you should not give out personal identifying information without verifying the authenticity of the call, even then, we recommend you independently verify the official phone number and call the organization directly. When in doubt, call us before making a payment to anyone.
