Monday July 8, 2019
Issued By: Lt Ed Crosby, Petaluma PD, 707.778.4372
Incident: Arrests for Assault with a Firearm, Domestic Violence Suspect: Mark James Wilson, 46 years old, Petaluma resident
Crimes: 245(a)(2) PC, 273.5(a) PC
Report Number: PPD 19-2791
Incident Date/Time: Thursday July 4, 2019 at approx. 10:37 pm Location: 100 block of Maria Drive, Petaluma

Incident Summary:  On the evening of July 4, 2019 at approximately 10:37 p.m., Petaluma Police received a call from a woman on the 100 block of Maria Drive reporting her boyfriend (Wilson) had pointed a firearm at her.

Officers arrived on scene, set up a perimeter, and summoned the woman outside. She met outside with police, accompanied by Wilson’s mother, who was present during the incident (which occurred at Wilson’s home).

Wilson and his girlfriend became involved in an argument inside the residence after having attended a party earlier in the evening; during the argument, Wilson retrieved a shotgun from his room, which the girlfriend said he pointed at her. She grabbed the shotgun, and the two wrestled over it, rolling around on the floor. Ultimately, Wilson regained control of the shotgun and went back into his room. Wilson’s girlfriend sustained visible injuries from the struggle over the shotgun. The shotgun was not discharged during the incident.

Wilson’s girlfriend and mother were interviewed by police, and they elected to stay elsewhere for the evening. Petaluma Police officers assisted by detectives conducted surveillance on Wilson’s residence throughout the evening. On the morning of July 5, 2019 Wilson was stopped while driving his vehicle after he exited his home, and he was detained without incident. The shotgun was recovered from his room. Wilson was interviewed by Petaluma Police and later booked at Sonoma County Jail on charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Firearm) and Domestic Violence.
