Wilmington Police arrest man, woman on drug charges

Wilmington Police have arrested two following a drug investigation.
 
On July 2 at approximately 2:51 p.m., members of the Safe Streets Task Force were in the 400 block of East 10th Street when they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation. The driver of the vehicle, 32-year-old Ronald Maddrey, was found to be wanted and was removed from the vehicle.
 
Upon further investigation, police found Maddrey to be in possession of 5.5 grams of marijuana along with $1,486 in currency. Officers also found .91 grams of heroin, packaged for sale, in the vehicle.
 
Both Maddrey and 23-year-old Jernaziah Smith were taken into custody without incident.
 
Maddrey has been charged with the following offenses in addition to the vehicle equipment violation:
 

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute
  • Conspiracy (Second Degree)
  • Driving While Suspended or Revoked
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
 
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court and given $12,511 unsecured bail. He was then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on an unrelated matter.
 
Smith has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and conspiracy (second degree). She was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and given $12,000 unsecured bail. She was then committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on an unrelated matter.
