Flash Flood Watch until 10:00PM

A cold front moving south through the Mid Atlantic region will produce scattered to numerous thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Rainfall rates with some of these storms nay be as high as four inches per hour, and with the slow movement of the thunderstorms, flash flooding is possible. The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of Virginia and southeast West Virginia, including the following areas, in Virginia, Alleghany VA, Amherst, Appomattox, Bath, Bedford, Botetourt, Buckingham, Campbell, and Rockbridge. In southeast West Virginia, Eastern Greenbrier and Western Greenbrier.

* From noon EDT today through this evening

* Very heavy rainfall rates and slow moving thunderstorms may produce flash flooding.

* Excessive rain may cause streams and creeks to overflow their banks flooding nearby roads. Urban and poor drainage areas may be inundated with runoff leading to flooded roads and underpasses. Mudslides are possible in areas with steeper terrain.

* AFFECTED AREAS: WESTERN GREENBRIER ... APPOMATTOX ... CAMPBELL ... BEDFORD ... ALLEGHANY ... BOTETOURT ... BUCKINGHAM ... BATH ... AMHERST ... EASTERN GREENBRIER ... ROCKBRIDGE

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. Remember...TURN AROUND...DON'T DROWN! You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
