The National Weather Service in Charleston West Virginia has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for... Northeastern Randolph County in northeastern West Virginia...
* Until 245 PM EDT.
* At 1239 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain may fall in a short amount of time. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Harman, Dryfork, and Whitmer. Excessive rainfall over the warned area will cause mud slides near steep terrain. The mud slide can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials. This includes the following streams and drainages... Dry Fork, Laurel Fork, Big Run, Horsecamp Run, Tory Camp Run, Gandy Creek, Stinking Run, Snyder Run and Bennett Run.
* AFFECTED AREAS: RANDOLPH, WV
Instructions:
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks. A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property.
