Fatal Traffic Collision *UPDATE*

INCIDENT: FATAL TRAFFIC COLLISION *UPDATE*

DATE/TIME OF COLLISION:  Saturday December 3, 2016 7:40 pm

LOCATION:  Mission Blvd & Eleanor St

CRIME:  192 PC - Manslaughter (Vehicular)

VICTIM:  Luis Salazar Sierra, 78 year old Pomona Resident

SUSPECT:  Geronimo Martinez, Jr, 23 year old Pomona Resident

UNIT: Traffic Services Bureau


In February of this year, the Pomona Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) completed their investigation into this fatal traffic collision, which occurred in December 2016.  MAIT Investigators submitted the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for review.  They issued an arrest warrant for the driver involved in this collision, Geronimo Martinez Jr., for vehicular manslaughter (192 PC).

On Monday, July 1st, Pomona Police Officers assigned to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) apprehended Geronimo Martinez Jr at his work place.  He was booked at the Pomona Police Jail on the warrant.  The suspect will appear in court on a date in the near future.

On December 3, 2016 at about 7:40 pm, Pomona Police Officers responded to the area of Mission Blvd and Eleanor St regarding a report of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian. Responding Officers found a male adult in the roadway that was struck by a vehicle.  Los Angeles County Fire Department Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.  There were no signs that alcohol or drugs were a factor.  The name of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The collision is being investigated by the Pomona Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team and the Los Angeles County Coroner's office.
