Happy Fourth of July, Norco! Celebrate Safely...

Happy Fourth of July, Norco! The City of Norco would like to remind all residents to celebrate safely, as the City has a zero tolerance policy regarding the possession or use of illegal fireworks. Protecting the safety of residents and their animals is a top priority for the City of Norco, Norco Sheriff's Station, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, and CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department. Extra patrol will be deployed to cite the use of illegal fireworks.

Pursuant to the provisions of the Norco Municipal Code, violators of the fireworks prohibition are subject to fines of up to $2,000 per citation, plus any costs associated with fire suppression. The property owner can be cited regardless of whether they are the individual who lit the firework or not. Violators may also face criminal prosecution. In addition to fireworks, illegally firing guns into the air is a felony and violators will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Citizens may not purchase, sell, transport, use, or store illegal fireworks in the City and all of Western Riverside County. Due to Norco’s large lot sizes and open space, fireworks create a greater risk of fire hazards. In addition, fireworks and stray bullets have the potential to injure and kill innocent bystanders, can trigger post-traumatic stress symptoms and can scare animals.
Residents are encouraged to self-police and assist law enforcement by reporting illegal fireworks activity or firearm discharge to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at (951) 776-1099. In the event of a life-threatening emergency, please dial 9-1-1.
If assistance with small or large animal rescues or evacuations is needed:
1. During regular business hours, contact Norco Animal Control Services at (951) 737-8972.
(Animal Control staff is on-duty Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Animal Shelter is closed on Sunday, Monday and Friday, as well as most major holidays.)
2. In an after-hours emergency situation, call (951) 371-1143.
Once the call is placed, a Norco Animal Control Officer will respond to the scene to assess the situation. If needed, the Animal Control Officer will then activate the Norco Animal Rescue Team (NART).
