Arrest Made For 4th Offense OWI With Child in Car

On July 4, 2019 at about 2:16 a.m. a Janesville police officer was nearly struck by a vehicle at the intersection at E. Milwaukee St. and Randall Avenue. The suspect vehicle made a wide turn from Randall onto Milwaukee St. crossing the center line and then accelerated at a high rate of speed east on Milwaukee St. The car was eventually stopped at Sauk Dr. As the officer approached the car he noticed an unrestrained 6 year old child in the back seat. The driver was identified as Tavia St. John. She displayed signs of impairment and admitted to having five drinks. She failed standardized filed sobriety tests and blew .18 on a portable breath test. Department of Transportation records showed she has three prior OWI convictions.

St. John consented to an evidentiary chemical test of her blood and those test results are pending. She was taken to the Rock County Jail where she is being held until her next court appearance.
