Advisory

Firework Events Canceled within the Municipality - Burn Ban still in effect.

Firework Events Canceled

Due to the extreme dry weather conditions in the Anchorage, Eagle River and surrounding areas, all fireworks shows have been canceled.

Just a reminder per MOA Code 14.70.180 it is unlawful to knowingly sell, possess, or use any explosive fireworks or stench bombs to which fuses are attached or which are capable of ignition by matches or percussion, without permission of that municipal official charged with issuing permits for such activities. This section does not apply to sale, possession, or use of highway or other warning flares, or of ammunition for firearms, unless used for other than their intended purposes.

Violation of this section shall be punishable by a civil penalty of $300 in accordance with chapter 14.60.

The Burn Ban is still in effect - Open Fires are PROHIBITED Due to VERY HIGH-EXTREME Fire Danger!

Outdoor fires are prohibited during the burn ban: this includes bon fires, campfires, open flame cooking fires (except barbecues), portable outdoor fireplaces, fixed/built in outdoor fire places, grass or yard debris burning, and any other heat source which have the potential to start a grass or wildland fire.

Barbecue grills (electric, gas & charcoal) are still allowed.  Enclosed pellet grills (Traeger, etc.) are also allowed.

The Municipality of Anchorage no longer issues Burn Permits.  As a reminder the following are always prohibited within the Municipality of Anchorage at any time:
  1. The use of burn barrels or burning trash, garbage, construction materials, or other non-cured firewood is prohibited.
  2. Burning of yard debris including leaves, grass and tree limbs is prohibited.  All vegetation waste and woody debris must be disposed of through curbside trash removal, the Solid Waste Service's transfer site, primary landfill or the wood lot.
