Pedestrian Struck by Amtrak Train

On July 1, 2019, at approximately 10:32 a.m., Simi Valley Police Officers and Ventura County Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a train in the 650 block of Cochran St. The preliminary investigation revealed an approximately 40-year-old, unidentified male subject, was walking northbound on the railroad tracks when he was struck from behind by an Amtrak Train. The subject sustained traumatic injuries and died at the scene.

At this time, it is unknown if the if the collision was an accident or a suicide. The Simi Valley Police Department and Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office is completing further investigation regarding the identity of the deceased subject and the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The Simi Valley Police Department would like to remind residents about the dangers associated with trains traveling on the railroad right of way. The recommended safe distance from is 15 feet or more.
