Wilmington Police arrest man in connection with burglary incident:
Wilmington Police have arrested and charged a 52-year-old man in connection with a burglary incident.
On June 24 at approximately 3:46 a.m., police responded to a liquor store in the area of 22nd and Market Streets in reference to a burglary in progress. Arriving officers observed 52-year-old Charles Smith standing in front of the liquor store, which had visible damage. Police then observed the man, who was carrying liquor bottles, flee the area along with another subject. Officers were able to take Smith into custody in the 2100 block of Market Street after a brief food pursuit and an area search.
Smith, who was found to be wanted on two capiases at the time of his arrest, has been charged with the following offenses:
- Burglary (Third Degree)
- Theft Under $1,500
- Resisting Arrest
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 on the above charges and the active capiases, and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution pending further proceedings.
