Moraga-Orinda Fire District (MOFD) will be doing a prescribed burn near the Painted Rock on Saturday, beginning at 10:00 am.  The purpose of the prescribed fire, also known as a “controlled burn,” is to reduce the fuels and fire hazard near the site of last year’s vegetation fire.  MOFD is taking precautions to ensure that the fire is controlled and safe.

This prescribed burn involves trained firefighters burning the grass and brush in a controlled area.  This eliminates flammable vegetation and drastically reduces the fire hazard. The fire will produce smoke and residents in the area should keep doors and windows closed.  Firefighters will be on scene with the prescribed burn until it is completed and the fire is completely extinguished.
