Suspect flees from deputy and discards meth
Deputy Robert Watson of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Harrison Bascombe Hensley, 62, address listed as Cherokee Way in Marion, with possession of methamphetamine, resisting a public officer and fleeing to elude arrest.
Watson was at the intersection of U.S. 70 East and N.C. 126 at 1:18 p.m. on Monday, May 27, when he spotted a minivan with a fictitious plate. When he attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped up and turned onto Railroad Drive. After a short pursuit on Railroad Drive, the suspect stopped the vehicle and ran into the woods. Watson gave chase through the woods and onto the railroad tracks.
The deputy apprehended the suspect, whom he identified as Hensley, and led him back out of the woods. During their trek, Hensley tossed a cigarette pack onto the ground. Deputies later retrieved it, and found that it contained .25 gram of methamphetamine.
Troopers with the N.C. Highway Patrol issued Hensley traffic citations, as well.
