Man Arrested For Leaving the Scene Following Fatal Crash

Suffolk County Police today arrested a Ridge man for leaving the scene following a motor vehicle crash that killed a female pedestrian in Miller Place last night.
 
Mary Ginty was walking northbound on Miller Place Road when she was struck by a northbound 2017 Hyundai Elantra at 9:58 p.m. The driver fled the scene in the Hyundai. Ginty, 31, of 22 Riverhead Road, Sound Beach, was transported to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson where she was pronounced dead.
 
Following an investigation by Major Case Unit detectives, John Lang was arrested at his parents’ residence in Ridge at 1:55 a.m. Lang, 30, was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death. He is being held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today.
 
Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
