INCIDENT: Felony Vandalism

LOCATION: 7100 Block of Osbun Road, Highland

SUSPECT: Herbert Umlas Dancel, age 38, Highland resident

VICTIM(S): Confidential

SUMMARY:

On Friday, June 21st, at approximately 9:30 pm, deputies from the Highland Police Department responded to a “shots fired” call. A resident reported seeing the suspect, Herbert Dancel, firing something at the rear window of a neighbor’s vehicle.

Deputies arrived at the location and found damage to the vehicle consistent with a projectile being fired at the window. The deputies set a perimeter around the suspect’s residence and evacuated several residences for the occupant’s safety. Deputies made PA announcements requesting the suspect come out of his residence peacefully. The Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division (SED) responded to the scene to assist deputies. After about two hours, the suspect came out of his house and surrendered to deputies. He was arrested without incident.

A search warrant was served at the suspect’s residence to continue the investigation. Investigators did not locate a firearm but gathered evidence showing the suspect’s involvement in the crime.

Dancel was booked into the Central Detention Center for Felony Vandalism. His bail is set at $25,000 and he is scheduled for arraignment on June 25th in Superior Court in San Bernardino.
