Suspect Arrested for Attempted Murder After Eluding Officers

Officers arrested Alexander Araujo, a 24 year old male from Turlock, responsible for opening fire on a security guard in a business parking lot, then eluding officers on foot through neighborhoods.

On Thursday, June 20, 2019, at 10:22 a.m., the Turlock Police Department Dispatch Unit received a call from a security guard reporting a suspicious person with a gun that was attempting to break into a vehicle in the parking lot of the 700 block of W. F Street. While the security guard was on the phone with Dispatch, the suspect fired a weapon in the direction of the security guard and an additional victim.

Immediately, officers saturated the area, followed by detectives and Command Staff who were on duty. The suspect fled the area and began jumping fences, going through residential properties in an attempt to elude officers. A perimeter was set, and at 10:56 a.m., Alexander Araujo was taken into custody.

Araujo was booked in the Stanislaus County Jail for attempted murder in addition to several other weapon related offenses. Additionally, Araujo had several outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants that he was booked for.
