Advisory

A man impersonating an officer attempts to pull over a detective in an unmarked Sheriff's vehicle

DATE/TIME: June 20, 2019

INCIDENT: PC 538d – Impersonate a Peace Officer

LOCATION: Eastbound 210 Freeway in the City of Upland

SUSPECT: Imroj Singh, age 23 a resident of Fontana

SUMMARY:

On June 19, 2019, at about 9:00 pm, a detective from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Station was driving his unmarked Sheriff’s detective vehicle east on the 210 freeway near Baseline Street in the city of Upland.

As the detective traveled east on the freeway, a black 2018 Jeep Wrangler followed behind him, and activated flashing red and blue strobe lights in an attempt to pull the detective over. The detective believed it might be an unmarked CHP unit and began to pull over. The suspect then deactivated his lights and continued traveling behind the detective. A short time later, the suspect activated his blue and red strobe lights again.

The detective realized the suspect was not a law enforcement officer, and began following the suspect, who now began traveling at a high rate of speed east on the 210 freeway in an attempt to flee from the detective. The detective activated his emergency lights and sirens, and the suspect yielded after exiting the Mountain Avenue exit in the City of Upland.

Imroj Singh was identified as the driver and sole occupant vehicle. No other law enforcement items were located in the vehicle. Through investigation, it was determined that Singh had purchased the blue and red strobe lights on the internet and had them installed in his vehicle’s front grill to make it look like he was an undercover law enforcement vehicle.

Singh was arrested on the above misdemeanor charge, and booked into the West Valley Detention Center, where he was later cite released from the jail. Singh will be arraigned in Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court on August 5, 2019.

Detectives believe that Singh may have previously used these lights and vehicle to stop other citizens. Detectives are releasing the photos of Singh’s vehicle and his booking photo. If you recognize Singh pretending to be a law enforcement officer, or were stopped by Singh, you are urged to contact the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department.
