Press Release

Details: On June 18, 2019, at approximately 3:15AM, Corcoran Police Department received a report of a shooting in the 1700 block of Hale Ave. When officers arrived on scene, they learned 2 subjects had broken a bedroom window and entered the residence while at least one of them was armed with a firearm. Once inside the residence, one of the victims engaged in a physical struggle with one of the suspects and several rounds were fired inside the bedroom and the suspects fled out the window they had entered through.
Shortly after receiving the report of this home invasion, officers learned 18 year old David Hernandez III had arrived at a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. At the same time this investigation was unfolding local, state and federal law enforcement were preparing to conduct a takedown of a large scale investigation into the criminal enterprise of the Nuestra Familia prison gang and local Northern Hispanic street gangs. Due to this ongoing large scale investigation, we were able to quickly obtain information into the home invasion and identify Hernandez III as a suspect, as well as Jose Quintero and Freddie Quair Jr.
At approximately 5:30AM Quintero and Quair Jr. were stopped along Hwy. 43 near Hanford by a Kings County Sheriff’s Deputy. This traffic stop resulted in an officer involved shooting and Quintero and Quair Jr. were both struck by gunfire and transported to local hospitals for treatment. Quintero has since been released and is in custody. Quair Jr. and Hernandez III remain in local hospitals recovering from their gunshot injuries.
At approximately 6:00AM on June 18, 2019 local, state and federal authorities conducted 55 search warrants throughout Kings, Tulare, Kern and Fresno Counties related to their large scale investigation referred to as Operation Red Reaper. Three of these search warrant locations were in the City of Corcoran. These search warrants resulted in the arrest of 54 suspects related to the Nuestra Familia prison gang and local Northern Hispanic street gangs. These pre-planned search warrants included a search warrant at 1155 Summerfield Dr. in Hanford where the targets of the search warrant were Quintero and Quair Jr. During this search warrant investigators located the vehicle believed to be utilized in the home invasion in Corcoran, as well as a firearm and other evidence. Quintero and Quair Jr. also already had arrest warrants issued for them related to Operation Red Reaper.
In addition to the arrests made on the day of the takedown, Operation Red Reaper had already made 42 arrests throughout the course of the investigation. In total Operation Red Reaper seized nearly 13 pounds of methamphetamine, over 35 pounds of marijuana, 2 butane honey oil labs, over $90,000 in cash, heroin, cocaine and 74 firearms with 11 of them being fully automatic weapons.
