SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS UNIT RECOVERS RIFLE, HANDGUN AND SILENCER DURING SEARCH WARRANT SERVICE
On June 19th, 2019 at approximately 5:30 PM hours members of the Pomona Police Department's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) conducted a traffic stop of a known Pomona gang member identified as Jose Rivera. During the traffic stop, Rivera was placed under arrest for an outstanding warrant. It was also discovered that Rivera was on probation for an unrelated case. Pursuant to the conditions of his probation, Rivera had search and seizure conditions.
Following the traffic stop, SIU Officers, assisted by the Pomona Police Department's Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) responded to Rivera's home address.While at the residence, officers secured the location while a search warrant was being obtained. Once a warrant was authored and signed, Officers began a search of Rivera's home.
Following a search of the residence, Officers located an AR-15 assault rifle, a .44 magnum revolver, a silencer, several handgun and rifle magazines and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. In addition to Rivera's outstanding arrest warrant, he was also charged with multiple firearm violations to include possession of an assault rifle and possession of a silencer. Rivera was booked at the Pomona City Jail. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for felony filing consideration.
