Advisory

Fireworks Prohibited in Ontario

The Ontario Police Department would like to remind residents that possession and/or ignition of fireworks within city limits is illegal.

With the celebration of Independence Day just around the corner, reports of fireworks are already coming in and are increasing daily.  Calls for service often include noise complaints, property damage reports, injury reports and lost or injured pets.  Last year, our Police Dispatch Center received 376 firework related calls for service in the 10 days leading up to July 4th.

While “safe and sane” fireworks are being sold in some of our neighboring cities, the use of any type of firework within the City of Ontario is strictly prohibited.  Violators could face a $1000.00 fine.  In 2018, Ontario Police Officers issued 60 citations for fireworks.

Please partner with us in keeping our city safe and enjoy the firework displays put on by those who are permitted to do so.  The annual fireworks show sponsored by the city is free to everyone and can be viewed at Westwind Park and other various locations throughout the city.  Visit https://www.ontarioca.gov/independenceday for info on all of the City's events.

If you are currently in possession of any type of firework and wish to discard it, you may surrender all fireworks at any fire station in the city, no questions asked.

We hope all residents can enjoy a safe and patriotic celebration of our nation’s freedom.
