Wilmington Police arrest three in connection with dog fight:

Wilmington Police have arrested three suspects following a dog fighting incident and investigation.
 
On June 13 at approximately 1:09 p.m., police responded to the intersection of North Pine and Shearman Streets in reference to a dog fight in progress. Officers were advised that a large group was present on the corner, and that suspects were forcing two dogs to engage in a fight on the sidewalk.
 
Arriving officers were able to take three suspects into custody without incident. Officials with the state Office of Animal Welfare responded to the scene as well, and transported both dogs to a local veterinarian for medical evaluation for injuries sustained in the fight.
 
Two men – 34-year-old Cory Clark and 38-year-old Javits Sullivan – have been charged with four animal cruelty charges, in addition to the following offenses:
 

  • Owning, possessing, keeping or using an animal for the purpose of fighting
  • Gambling on the outcome of an animal fight
  • Being present at an animal fight
 
Both men were arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
 
Delonta Gilree, 31, of New Castle, has been charged with being present at an animal fight. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $1,000 unsecured bail.
