News Release: Police Arrest Burglar Who Entered Occupied Home

Police arrested a suspect for burglarizing an occupied home Saturday morning. On Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 6:10 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a report of a residential burglary that had just occurred in the 600 block of Oregon Avenue. A female victim in her thirties woke up to the sound of her front door opening. She woke up her husband to alert him and both got up to investigate. The victim saw a man she did not recognize exiting her front door and noticed her car keys were missing. As police arrived on scene, they saw a man walking eastbound on Oregon Expressway at Middlefield Road who fit the description of a male suspect who had fled from Stanford University Department of Public Safety deputies several hours earlier. Officers detained him and found a set of car keys on the ground next to him. Through their investigation, police determined he was also the suspect responsible for the Palo Alto residential burglary. The keys located next to the suspect belonged to the burglary victims. Police arrested 23-year-old Abraham Martinez of San Jose for residential burglary (felony) and booked him into the Santa Clara County Main Jail. His booking photo is attached to this news release (note: the booking photo has been removed pursuant to AB994 as of December 2023). Martinez also faces several charges related to Stanford University Department of Public Safety’s investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call our 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413.
