Lt. Derrick McGinnis of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Richard Lee Shoupe, 62, address listed as Silvers Welch Road in Old Fort, with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
                At 11:42 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, McGinnis was called to Mission Hospital McDowell in reference to an assault victim that had arrived in the emergency room.
                The lieutenant found the 39-year-old girlfriend of the suspect suffering from serious injuries to her face and head.
                An investigation showed that Shoupe and the woman got into a dispute at their residence, at which time the suspect assaulted the victim with his hands and feet.
