Three People Arrested in SLA Inspection
Suffolk County Police First Precinct Crime Section along with Community Support Unit, Gang Unit, Patrol officers, New York State Liquor Authority Investigators, Town of Babylon Deputy Commissioner of Public Safety, Town of Babylon Fire Marshall, Town of Babylon Building Inspector and the Town of Babylon Code Enforcement conducted a SLA Inspection at ESAU Grocery & Deli located at 577 Broadway, North Amityville last night at 11:35 p.m.
Three people were arrested during the inspection:
- Jorge Hernandez, 49, of Copiague, the owner of the deli, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree and two counts of Disorderly Premise.
- Devin Paul-Bettis, 24, of North Amityville, a security guard at the deli, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree.
- Jose Esobar, 38, of Wyandanch, a patron, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree.
The three men will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
First Precinct Crime Section officers issued eight summonses for SLA violations to the owner. The owner surrendered the deli’s liquor license to the NYS Liquor Authority Investigators. The Town of Babylon Quality of Life Task Force issued 13 summonses for combined building, fire and code violations to the owner. As a result of the violations the establishment was condemned and closed.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. -30-
