Flash Flood Watch until 07:00AM Sunday

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of central Illinois, east central Illinois, southeast Illinois, and west central Illinois, including the following areas, in central Illinois, Christian, De Witt, Logan, Macon, Mason, Menard, Piatt, Sangamon, and Shelby. In east central Illinois, Champaign, Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Moultrie, and Vermilion. In southeast Illinois, Crawford, Effingham, and Jasper. In west central Illinois, Cass, Morgan, and Scott.

* From 9 AM CDT this morning through 7 AM CDT Sunday morning

* Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected from this morning through tonight across the area, with moderate to heavy rain at times during today and tonight. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are expected by dawn Sunday, with locally higher amounts possible especially along and south of I-72.

* Heavy rainfall may result in flooding of low lying or poor drainage areas, and ultimately dangerous flash flooding on smaller creeks and streams. Additional rises on larger streams and rivers will also be possible.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued. Never drive across a flooded road.
