*****UPDATE Suspect Roman Cerratos Arrested! ************

With the cooperation and assistance of the FBI and Mexico authorities, Suspect Roman Cerratos was arrested on June 13, 2019, at an undisclosed location in Mexico.
 
On June 14, 2019, Cerratos was extradited and taking into custody by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Cerratos was booked for murder by Homicide investigators. Suspect Maricela Mercado and her 15 year old daughter have not been located.  
 
The investigation is ongoing and no additional details are available at this time.

On April 16, 2019 a male was found dead in a vehicle that was discovered on the 400 block of East Carson Plaza Drive in the City of Carson.  Both Mercado and Cerratos are wanted in connection with the murder and are considered armed and dangerous.  Mercado’s daughter Alora Benitez, is believed to be with both suspects. 
 
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the City of Carson, have approved a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s).

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide bureau detectives are continuing the investigation into the death of a male White adult that occurred on 400 block of East Carson Plaza Drive in the city of Carson on Tuesday, April 18, 2019 at 6:00 A.M.

Detectives have discovered the identity of the victim, Jeffery Appel, a male White, 32 years old. The victim’s next of kin has been notified.

The exact cause of death is still under investigation at this point. The search of the suspects is still ongoing and the detectives are actively continuing their investigation.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators are asking for your help identifying and locating the attached persons of interest. Both Cerratos and Mercado are wanted in connection with the  murder and are considered armed and dangerous. They were last seen driving a white 2013 BMW 4 door Sedan with a Nevada license plate “MARIMAR”.

Cerratos is described as a male Hispanic, 39 years old, 6’1”, 210 lbs, bald and brown eyes. Mercado is described as a female Hispanic, 40 years old, 5’3”, 130 lbs, brown hair and brown eyes.

Alora Benitez, a 15 year-old female Hispanic juvenile was last seen on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at approximately 9 A.M. in the city of Torrance. She was leaving with both of the suspects in a White, 2013 BMW, 4-door Sedan.  However, the plate might have been removed from the rear of the vehicle and replaced with an unknown paper plate.

***CORRECTION*** Homicide Investigators are handling this incident as a Death Investigation, unknown at this time if a stabbing occurred.   
 

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a male Hispanic adult that occurred on the 400 Block of East Carson Plaza Drive, in the city of Carson.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at approximately 6:52 AM, deputies assigned to Carson station responded to the location regarding a person down call. Upon arrival the deputies found a man unresponsive inside a vehicle. 
 
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the man and cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.

The investigation is ongoing, and there is no other additional information available at this time.
