Route 80 Rock Wall Project

As you may know, Knowlton Mayor Adele Starrs and I have been active in opposing NJDOT’s proposal to erect a series of industrial fences and 60 foot high concrete pyramid in the Hardwick and Knowlton sections of Route 80 East through the Delaware Water Gap Recreational Area. We view this project as unnecessary and financially extravagant ($65,000,000) and something that will permanently destroy the scenic views and vistas in this gateway to NJ. You may have received a notice from NJDOT regarding an Open House they have scheduled at North Warren HS on Tuesday, June 18 from 4-8 PM. This format does not include a general public hearing with opportunities to ask questions but is set up as a series of information stations on aspects of the project. This is not the type of public event that Mayor Starrs and I requested so we’ve reserved the school auditorium and will provide the presentation we’ve been delivering to other municipalities offering project details and our reasons for opposing it in it’s current form. We hope that attending our session first will give you context and perspective for the overall initiative and prepare you to ask informed questions at the NJDOT stations. Our sessions will be 4pm, 5pm and 6pm and you will the opportunity to ask us questions and make a brief statement for the record which will be forwarded to NJDOT. Hope to see you there. It is critical that the public lets NJDOT know how they feel about this project.

Attached is a press release describing the project. I will send links to  several recent newspaper articles in subsequent messges.
