HELP SMPD identify a sexual assault suspect
 
The San Mateo Police Department is asking for your help with identifying a sexual assault suspect who accosted a woman as she was walking to her car.
 
San Mateo, CA - On Monday, May 20, 2019, San Mateo Police Department officers were called to a report of a sexual battery that occurred outside of Bank of America located at 300 S El Camino Real. The suspect sexually assaulted a woman after accosting her in the parking lot.
 
The San Mateo Police Department continues to investigate this sexual assault and is seeking to identify the suspect seen on the attached video. Anyone with information is urged to contact police immediately.
 
WANTED FOR QUESTIONING
Male, Latino, approximately 5’-4”, 120 pounds, with dark curly hair that extended below his hat, and a medium complexion. He was wearing a dark colored baseball cap with a white logo on it, dark colored jacket/hoody, and dark jeans. He was also carrying a dark backpack with a white logo on it.

TIPS ON WALKING AROUND
As SMPD tackles this case, we ask our community to safeguard themselves with these tips:

  • Be alert to your surroundings and the people around you.
  • Whenever possible, travel in pairs.
  • Stay in well lit, public areas as much as possible.
  • Do not respond to conversation from strangers on the street.
  • If you carry a purse, hold it securely between your arm and body, or across your person. Keep it zipped closed.
  • Limit cell phone use when walking. It is a distraction to you and your surroundings.
