Driving and Drugs Don't Mix

On 6/12/19 at around 11:09 PM SVPD units responded to a traffic collision that occurred in the area of Royal Ave. and Erringer Rd. The caller indicated that the vehicle had collided into a power pole. Upon arrival, it was learned that the collision had knocked the power pole to the ground. The investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling e/b on Royal Ave. approaching Erringer Rd. at a high rate of speed. Because of the speed, the vehicle could not negotiate a slight curve in the roadway. This caused the vehicle to traversed the w/b lanes of Royal Ave. and collide with a power pole on the north side of Royal Ave. The driver was not injured. The investigation also revealed that the driver was DUI (Drugs). He was identified as Stephen Corralejo (7/23/94) of Moorpark CA. Corralejo was subsequently arrested and booked at the VCJ.

The Simi Valley Police Department would like to remind the public that the offense of driving under the influence, or "DUI", typically relates to alcohol intoxication. But alcohol is just one of countless substances that can impair one's ability to operate a motor vehicle. Driving under the influence of drugs -- including prescription medications as well as illegal drugs -- can also result in DUI charges.
Mixing drugs and driving, whether it's medicinal marijuana or legally prescribed muscle relaxers, is just as illegal as driving drunk and can also constitute a DUI offense. Doctor's orders are no defense to drugged driving charges.
