Duarte Crime Blotter for the Week of June 2-8, 2019

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of June 2 through June 8, 2019.        
 
June 02, 2019

  • Narcotics Arrest:  Deputies responded to the 1000 block of Chimes Ave., regarding a male in the middle of the street obstructing traffic. Upon contacting the male in the middle of the street, deputies quickly recognized he displayed symptoms of a person under the influence of a controlled substance. When asked for his identification, he pulled out a glass pipe used for ingesting narcotics out of his pocket instead of his I.D. The suspect was arrested of possession of narcotic paraphernalia. Incident to the arrest, the suspect was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.  He was additionally charged with possession of methamphetamine, and being under the influence of a controlled substance. The suspect was a resident of Azusa.    
June 03, 2019
  • Residential Burglary Arrest:  Deputies responded to the 1800 block of Buena Vista St. regarding a residential burglary report call. The informant and witness stated that at approximately 11:30 a.m., a homeless adult son of the tenant, forcibly entered his mother’s apartment through the front door and shortly after, walked out with a backpack. The suspect returned at 5 p.m. and walked out carrying a suitcase. The next day, deputies observed the homeless suspect in the area of Buena Vista and Duarte road and detained him pending a burglary investigation.  After further investigation, the suspect was arrested for residential burglary. 
 
  • Felony Vandalism Arrest:  Deputies responded to Beardlee Academy located at 1212 Kelwill Way, regarding a report of vandalism. While reviewing video surveillance, administrators saw two students removing shingles from the roof and throwing them to the ground. The two juveniles then removed two wooden beams affixed to the main office and threw them to the ground. Administrators also found that the air conditioning wires had been removed. One juvenile was arrested at the school and the other was arrested at his home. Damage was estimated at $800.      
 
  • A Vehicle Burglary was reported in the 2300 block of Park Rose Ave.. Sometime between June 2nd and 3rd, persons unknown entered the victim’s vehicle by punching the door locking mechanism, and stole the stereo and miscellaneous paperwork. 
 
  • A Vehicle Burglary was reported in the 1500 block of Broadland Ave.  Sometime between May 29th and June 2nd, persons unknown forcibly opened the sliding door window, and stole the victim’s $4,000 mountain bike.      
 
June 04, 2019
  • Petty Theft Arrest:  Deputies responded to Target (1050 Huntington Dr.) regarding security detaining a petty Theft suspect. Upon arrival, security stated they observed an adult female enter the store with several empty reusable bags, conceal numerous kids clothing items, and walk out of the store without paying. After further investigation, the female was arrested for Petty Theft and the $692 in clothing items were returned to the store. The suspect is a resident of Pomona.      
 
June 05, 2019
  • Narcotics Arrest:  At approximately 7 p.m., deputies responded to the Smart & Final (1193 Huntington Dr.), regarding a call of a possible intoxicated person. Upon arrival, deputies detained an adult male that matched the description in the call. While speaking with the male, deputies saw him drop what appeared to be methamphetamine. After recovering the item, peputies determined the substance was methamphetamine and placed the male under arrest without incident.  The male is a resident of La Puente.
 
  • Narcotics Arrest:  At approximately 1:40 a.m., deputies detained an adult male bicyclist at Huntington Dr. and Bradbury Ave. regarding a traffic infraction. Prior to conducting a pat down search, the male stated he had a little methamphetamine in his backpack. After recovering the substance from his backpack, deputies determined the substance was methamphetamine and placed the male under arrest.  The male was a resident of Baldwin Park.

June 07, 2019
  • Dangerous Weapons Arrest:  Deputies initiated a traffic stop of an adult male on a bicycle at Encanto Pkwy. and Huntington Dr., regarding a traffic violation. The male was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a pipe used for ingesting methamphetamine, and was arrested. Deputies also located a dirk/dagger concealed in his backpack. After further investigation, the male was additionally charged with possession of a deadly weapon. It was determined the male was homeless and resides in the riverbed.          
 
June 08, 2019
  • At approximately 5 p.m., deputies responded to the corner of Galen St. and Ivory Dr., regarding reports of a gunshot victim at the location. Upon arrival, deputies located an adult male, who stated he is homeless and was riding his bicycle when a grey Acura pulled up alongside him and the rear passenger fired 2-3 rounds at him. The victim became extremely uncooperative and refused to answer any further questions. The victim was struck in the right elbow and was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
