INCIDENT: Major Injury Traffic Collision

LOCATION: State Highway 18 west of Tao Road, Apple Valley

SUMMARY: On Saturday, June 8th, at approximately 10:04 pm, deputies from the Apple Valley Police Station responded to the area of State Highway 18 and Tao Road following the report of a traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Through investigation, deputies determined a gray Volkswagen Jetta was traveling west on State Highway 18, west of Tao Road in the #2 lane. A male pedestrian attempted to cross over State Highway 18 between the intersections with Tao Road and Corwin Road and was struck by the Volkswagen, resulting in major injuries. The driver stopped at the scene and called Sheriff's Dispatch to report the collision. Medical personnel responded to the scene, and the pedestrian was transported by air to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment.

Due to the injuries to the pedestrian, deputies from the Apple Valley Police Station’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) responded and conducted the investigation. Westbound lanes of State Highway 18, from Tao Road to Corwin Road, were closed for approximately three hours while deputies conducted the investigation.


The collision is currently under investigation by the Apple Valley Police Department, and deputies are seeking additional witnesses.
