Traffic stop leads to arrest of duo on drug charges.

On June 9, 2019, at 12:55 p.m. Deputy U.B. Smith conducted a traffic stop on Washington Street in Hazleton, Indiana. Upon approaching the vehicle he identified the driver as 31 year old Brian Ramey of Vincennes, Indiana. Also in the vehicle was 29 year old David Schatz of Decker, Indiana. During a roadside investigation Deputy Smith ran both individuals through the National Crime Information Center and Indiana Data And Communications System. Deputy Smith discovered that Mr. Ramey was driving on a suspended license with a prior conviction for driving while suspended. Further Deputy Smith discovered that Mr. Schatz had an outstanding Warrant out of Crawford County for Failing to Appear on a previous drug charge. At that point Deputy Smith began a roadside drug investigation with the assistance of Sergeant Tim Coomer.

At the end of his investigation Deputy Smith transported Mr. Ramey and Mr. Schatz to the Gibson County Jail. Upon arriving at the Gibson County Jail Mr. Ramey was charged with Driving While Suspended/Prior and Possession of Methamphetamines. David Schatz was also charged with Possession of Methamphetamines and Possession of Paraphernalia. Mr. Ramey remains in custody on a $750 bond. Mr. Schatz is being held without bond for Crawford County.

All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
